Project 1 - Audio Dubbing and Sound Shaping

INSTRUCTIONS

For this project, we were tasked to audio dub a scene from a movie. We had to source our own recordings of ambiences and objects as well as recording dialogue on our own.

Sound effects are to be sourced from:
https://freesound.org/
https://99sounds.org/

Before starting my project, I analyzed the video from start to end. I list down the number of sounds I needed and dialogues to be recorded.

After that, I started importing the files one by one and matching it to the scene.

I had to edit most of the clips as they were either too long or too short.

For dialogue, I used the audio pitch to change up the pitch of my voice from normal to either deep or high pitched, based on the dialogue. I found this a little bit of a struggle as the high pitch voice did not really sound accurate for a child.

Project 1B
For this task, I had to edit my voice into different versions, also known as sound shaping.
Criteria:
Record and edit our own voice for 5 second in Adobe Audition

Voice of phone call
Voice coming from inside the closet
Voice of toilet/bathroom
Underground Cave
Alien/Orc
I imported my voice into Adobe Audition and then I shaped it using the parametric equalizer.
After that, I added a rack effect on the reverb.

Reflection

Working on the audio dubbing and sound shaping projects was like exploring the world of making sounds better. In the dubbing project, I learned how to match voices with what we see on the screen, making everything fit together smoothly. The sound shaping project taught me how to create different sound environments, using things like tone and pitch to make people feel certain emotions. Both projects showed me how important sound is in making videos more impactful. I now understand more about the technical side of things and how sound can make stories even better.
