LECTURES

  • Gestalt Theory: People see things as a whole, not just as parts, based on principles like similarity, proximity, and closure.
  • Contrast: Making elements different (e.g., color, size) to add interest and make things stand out.

  • Emphasis: Making certain elements more noticeable to create a focal point or draw attention.

  • Balance: Distributing visual weight evenly to create stability in a design.

  • Repetition: Using consistent elements to create unity and reinforce patterns.

  • Movement: Guiding the viewer's eye through directional elements or implied motion within the design.

  • Harmony & Unity: Ensuring all elements work together cohesively to create a sense of overall consistency.

  • Symbol: Using visual representations to convey ideas or concepts beyond their literal meaning.

  • Word and Image: Integrating text and visuals effectively to communicate a message or idea.

Fig 1.1 UNSDG Goal 16

Goal 16 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aims to create peaceful, just, and inclusive societies by promoting social harmony, access to fair legal systems, and accountable governance structures. It seeks to reduce violence, ensure equal access to justice, and strengthen institutions to foster stability and development worldwide.

The use of bullet holes serves as a stark reminder of the tragic events of the Monterey Park shooting, highlighting the importance of preventing such incidents and promoting peace. I felt with the ongoing gun problem, it falls under Goal 16.  The design principles observed in this artwork include contrast, as the bullet holes contrast against the red background, emphasis on the bullet holes to draw attention to the violence, and symbolism in using visual elements to convey a powerful message about the need for peace and justice.
