LECTURES

Week 1 - Bezier game

Mr. Hafiz shared a helpful link with the class: https://bezier.method.ac/. This website allowed us to practice using the pen tool, which is a crucial skill in Adobe Illustrator.

Week 2 - Introduction to Adobe Illustrator

Three strategies to enhance the appeal of your character.

Iconic: Develop characters with iconic traits that are instantly recognizable, even in the form of black silhouettes, making them visually distinct and memorable.

Simplicity: Design characters with a simplified and straightforward visual style, enabling viewers to easily comprehend and connect with the purpose and essence of the characters.

Unique: Craft characters that possess distinct and memorable qualities, leaving a lasting impact on viewers. The uniqueness of the character contributes to their memorability and captivates the audience's attention.

Contrast: The use of distinct colors, such as Blue and Red, effectively represents the juxtaposition of two opposing forces, symbolizing "Good" and "Bad" elements in the design.

Harmony: Achieving harmony in design involves ensuring that all elements complement each other, similar to how it was accomplished in the movie 'Inside Out', where repeated details reinforce the overall coherence and unity of the emotions portrayed.

Expressions/Poses: Characters that exhibit expressive and emotive qualities have a greater appeal to the audience. By visually capturing the behaviors, quirks, and personalities of the characters, it becomes easier to engage and connect with the viewers.

Week 3 - Introduction to Color on Adobe Illustrator

Utilizing a color palette facilitates the exploration of contrasting combinations and enables the creation of precise color gradients. It empowers us to customize and save our preferred color combinations for future use. Once we have achieved the desired graphic, we can experiment with various color combinations and contrasts, extracting and preserving them in our personal library for future reference.

Week 4 - Pencil Tool

Fig 1.1 Pen tool

The pen tool is a highly utilized and valuable feature in Adobe Illustrator. By utilizing the pencil tool, we have the ability to create our own unique shapes and graphics.

Week 5 - Image Trace & 3DL

Extruding involves extending a 2D object along its Z-axis to give it depth, transforming it into a 3D shape. For instance, if you extrude a 2D circle, it will take the form of a cylinder. Revolving, on the other hand, revolves a path or profile around the global Y-axis in a circular motion to generate a 3D object. The revolve axis remains fixed in a vertical position, requiring the open or closed path to represent half of the desired 3D object's profile from a front-facing perspective. Once created, you can adjust the 3D object's orientation within the effect's dialog box.

INSTRUCTIONS

Task 1 : Exercise 1 / Vormator Challenge Character

The task was to create a character using the Vormator elements in Fig 1. . I went on Pinterest to gather some ideas and inspiration decided to create a gorilla.

On my first two attempts, I was exploring with the shapes and came out with different layouts for my character. I did not like the overall designs, so I completely changed the pose of my character for a more natural look.

This is my third attempt in creating the character and I am more happy with the outcome and direction it is in. I made some final touch ups and additions to my character before submitting.

Task 1 : Exercise 2 / Illustrator Type

For this exercise, we are required to generate two random words to create illustrated type.

My two words are Dig and Railroad. I did not have much inspiration and idea from this activity. It was a creative block for me. I ended up using the letterforms to create something similar to the meaning of the words.
